Justin Thomas, Justin Rose Committed to Compete in Wells Fargo Championship

Charlotte, NC, April 6, 2023Justin Thomas and Justin Rose, both formerly ranked No. 1 in the world golf rankings, committed today to compete in the Wells Fargo Championship as the PGA TOUR returns to Charlotte and Quail Hollow Club, May 1-7.

Thomas, who won the 2017 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club for the first of his two PGA Championship victories, is currently the 10th ranked player in the world, giving the annual spring event six of the top ten players on the current ranking, who are scheduled to compete. Earlier tournament officials announced commitments from three-time champion and World No. 2 Rory McIlroy along with Patrick Cantlay (No. 4), two-time champion Max Homa (5), Xander Schauffele (No. 7), and Will Zalatoris (No. 8).

Rose, who like Thomas, was ranked No. 1 in the world during a portion of the 2018 season will be returning to Charlotte where he has had three top-five finishes in his last three starts—5th (2014), 3rd (2016), 3rd (2019). Rose, who won earlier this season at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, won the 2013 U.S. Open and earned a Gold Medal for England at the 2016 Olympics.

Combined, this twosome has accumulated 26 career PGA TOUR titles—Thomas with 15 and Rose with 11.

“It is wonderful to have both Justin’s back in the field this year,” said Gary Sobba, Wells Fargo Championship Tournament Director. “Not only are they very talented competitors but each of them has a charismatic fan base. With the addition of these two, we are excited for the fans as the field starts to take shape.”

Players have until 5:00 p.m. Eastern on April 29 to commit to the 156-player field and can withdraw from the tournament at any time.
