Wells Fargo Championship Donates $250,000 to the First Tee of Charlotte

Event's Contributions Grow to $4.2 Million in First Three Years

CHARLOTTE, N.C., October 18, 2005 – The Wells Fargo Championship today announced a donation of $250,000 to the First Tee of Charlotte.

The First Tee of Charlotte was established in 2001 and is part of 172 chapters and 210 facilities existing throughout the world that has introduced the game to over 450,000 children. Currently, the program operates at The Golf Village of Pineville. The facility provides a complete driving range, chipping green and putting green. In the future, the facility will move to an area in Revolution Park and will include a short course, a driving range, a chipping and putting green and a learning center.

“The First Tee of Charlotte is an important part of this community and we are glad we can help it grow,” said Wells Fargo Championship Tournament Director Kym Hougham. “This organization is developing accessible opportunities for young people of all backgrounds to learn life-enhancing values such as honesty, integrity and sportsmanship through the game of golf. It offers young people the chance to develop good character through this great game.”

In its first three years of existence, the Wells Fargo Championship has donated $4.2 million to Teach For America, the First Tee of Charlotte and other charities. The 2006 Wells Fargo Championship is scheduled for May 1-7, 2006.

“The Charlotte community has embraced the Wells Fargo Championship from the beginning and we are glad we can give something back,” said Hougham. “Not only is it our mission to raise money to help charitable causes, but the entire PGA TOUR is all about giving back and is closely aligned with First Tee programs around the world.”
