The Wells Fargo Championship is proud to support Teach For America-Charlotte and has selected it as the primary charitable recipient of the 2014 event.

Today, approximately 11,000 Teach For America corps members are teaching in 48 regions that span 35 states across the U.S. In 2013-14, 230 corps members here in Charlotte reach over 17,000 students. Every day, they work alongside parents, principals, fellow educators, and more than 300 Teach For America alumni advocating inside and outside the classroom for equal educational opportunity.

Did You Know?

  • Teach For America partners with CMS to place corps members in schools serving Charlotte's highest-need students. In the 2012-2013 school year. 230 Teach For America corps members were placed in 45 high-poverty schools in Charlotte Mecklenburg and in KIPP Academy in Charlotte. In the schools where we work, 82% of the students qualify for free-and reduced price lunch.
  • A 2012 UNC Chapel Hill study found that Teach For America was the most effective source of new teachers in the state of North Carolina. In all high school subjects, a first-year Teach For America corps members was more effective than all other teachers studied.
  • Of the more than 300 Teach¬†For America alumni we have in Charlotte, 87% of them work directly in the field of education or have jobs that impact the field of education or education issues. There are 7 Teach For America alumni currently serving as principles. ¬†
