Anthony Kim and his management team will decide soon when to have the detached ligament in his left thumb surgically repaired. Kim, coming off a victory at the Shell Houston Open and a third-place finish at the Masters in his last two outings, said he would have the operation and was prepared to skip major championships to be ready for the Ryder Cup in September.
"It's going to happen, it's just a matter of when," Kim said at a news conference at the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, N.C. "The doctor has told me when the pain gets too hard to deal with, that's when I should do it. But as of now he said it can't get any worse, so I guess that's a good thing. I'm just going to keep playing until I can't anymore."
The normal rehabilitation period is two to three months after this type of surgery, which raises the question of whether Kim will be fit by September.
